TEE State Activities - Project and Planning Grants
TEE’s strategy for winning quality universal pre-K demands simultaneous action at the state and federal levels. Today we are active in 8 states. Our approach is diverse; we are supporting the expansion of the court ordered “Abbott” pre-school programs in New Jersey and supporting the organizations fighting for a ballot initiative in Florida. Other states in which we are active are: New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Wisconsin.
Project Grants
The initial four grantees were awarded grants because of their commitment and success in expanding access to quality pre-kindergarten and their ability to generate momentum that would influence other states and the elections of key public policymakers in November. New grantees will be selected based on these same factors plus an assessment of their ability to move a QPK agenda during the recession, and their strategic value to a national campaign that will run through the 108th Congress and 2004 election cycle.

Planning Grants
In anticipation of the state budget battles most states will face in 2003, TEE awarded planning grants at the end of 2002 to four states that had the potential to make progress despite tight budgets.
